Beautiful day–we had a CBC-type count of our 126 acres with a total of
12 wonderful birders helping and we all had a wonderful time! We
started at 8 a.m. and stopped at noon for Harmon’s Barbecue, from
Cibolo, and then many of us went back out into the field. The last 4
visiting birders left at 5 p.m. and Don and I stayed out until 630 p.m.
At 8 a.m., it was 51.9 degrees and the humidity was 27% with winds of 1
mph. out of the WSW. At 10:30 a.m., we had a peak gust of 21 mph and
the wind shifted to the SW and the wind slowly subsided to 16-18 mph.
The High temperature was 77 at 3:35 p.m. and the low humidity was 11% at
2:07 p.m. We continue in drought conditions. The latest national
drought info is at: http://drought.unl.edu/dm/monitor.html. Our
neighbors have had 2 ponds dry up on 2 different sides & one of these
used to have water fowl. We found 2 recent fatalities in the woods–a
Red-shouldered Hawk and a Wild Turkey, in different areas. We didn’t
see the Red-tailed Hawks or the Bobwhite Quail today.
